OUTREACH
Dialogue is central to sā's mission. We aim to foster transboundary conversations among people from all walks of life with an emphasis on engaging next-gen. By creating platforms that bring together individuals from the remotest parts of the Himalayas and celebrated international figures, we encourage the exchange of values with both local and global impacts.

Rock Art with Next-Gen
In a workshop with over 20 students from Samagra Shiksha Kendra, supported by the Child Welfare Trust. They painted stones expressing their aspirations for the future, which became part of Entanglements, a site-specific installation displayed - ‘Journeying Across the Himalayas’ by Royal Enfield’s social mission at Travancore Palace, Delhi, symbolising interconnected legacies and hope.
Immersive Performance with
Neil Ghose Balser and Doyel Joshi
Neil Ghose Balser and Doyel Joshi conducted an immersive performance workshop with 50 students from Mahabodhi Residential School, Leh, exploring the deep connection between land and its inhabitants. Through traditional and contemporary practices, students engaged in storytelling and artistic expressions, fostering dialogue on nature, culture, and community. Supported by the German Embassy and Local Futures - Ladakh, the students and artists performed together during the second edition, bringing their collective creativity to life.


Crochet with people of PAGIR and Li Actuallee
Artist Li Actuallee, accompanied by team member Farhat Khan, visited the PAGIR (People’s Action Group for Inclusion and Rights), centre and interacted with individuals involved with the organization. Li introduced their crochet artwork and encouraged everyone to participate, creating a collaborative weaving experience.
Art can be created with anything
with Manisha Gera Baswani
Senior artist and advisor Manisha Gera Baswani conducted an introductory art workshop in coordination with Local Futures - Ladakh and with support from Gallery Espace for 20 students from Government High School Skalzamgling, Leh, who belong to economically vulnerable migrated families from Nepal and the remotest locations of Ladakh. Students experienced a free-flowing art using discarded clothes, ribbons, buttons, and bindis to create anything, with or without paper as their canvases.

A Day in Likir
The team visited Likir Village and engaged with the local community, particularly students from the Government School, Likir. The visit was led by Ayan Biswas and Mukulita Ganguly.
Amidst a forest setting, Mukulita introduced the students to the team and organized a face painting activity using 'Markalak,' a natural clay found in abundance.


Painting our tote bags
with Jigmet Angmo
Artist Jigmet Angmo conducted an introductory art workshop in coordination with Local Futures - Ladakh for 20 students of Government High School, H.S. Colony, Leh at Edition Two. The students were introduced to tote bags as canvases and used blocks, brushes, and their fingers as tools for creating vibrant impressions. For many, this was their first experience with contemporary art.

Through a Pin Hole Camera
Ayan conducted a cyanotype printing and pinhole photography workshop, teaching the children how to make innovative pinhole cameras using tetra juice boxes and locally available materials. This encouraged the students to become storytellers and keen observers of their surroundings.
Pottery Workshop with the Last Potters
Likir is renowned as the village of potters, but due to modernization, many have moved away from pottery as a profession. However, the village still boasts a father-son duo, known as the last potters of Ladakh, who held a pottery workshop for the team and students, introducing them to the basics of Ladakhi pottery.


Papier-Mâché with Skarma Sonam Tashi
The volunteering workshop with Skarma Sonam Tashi introduced participants to the art of papier-mâché, focusing on crafting elements for Transformations, a regenerative installation at India Art Fair 2024. Volunteers engaged hands-on with traditional techniques, contributing to an artwork celebrating Ladakh’s vulnerable architecture while supporting resilient infrastructure for a charity school in Noida.
Rammed Earth with Raki Nikahetiya and Urgyen Skaldan
Raki Nikahetiya and Urgyen Skaldan introduced school kids to the sustainable rammed earth construction technique during the first edition. Using layers of damp earth compacted within a framework, they collaboratively built a wall. This method, known for its durability, thermal efficiency, and low environmental impact, highlighted the importance of eco-friendly architecture while fostering hands-on learning.


An Uncanny Language (The Land and Its Many Voices) with Małgorzata Stankiewicz
This workshop explored the hidden narratives of landscapes, where next-gen community members tuned into the land’s subtle voices and stories. Supported by the Swiss Embassy in India and Bhutan and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, Stankiewicz encouraged reflection on human-land relationships, using creative practices to connect with the environment.
Screen Printing with Tenzin Jamyang and
Team CrashPad
This hands-on workshop introduced participants to the basics of screen printing, with guidance from Jammy Tenzing and Team CrashPad. Participants created unique designs while engaging with the technical aspects of printing, fostering a blend of creative exploration and practical learning.


Creating Art with Papier Mâché with
Skarma Sonam Tashi
Artist Skarma Sonam Tashi led a creative session on traditional papier mâché techniques, where students transformed recycled materials into art. The workshop emphasized sustainability while reconnecting with age-old Ladakhi practices, encouraging participants to create eco-friendly artworks.
Workshop with Basgo Clay
with Tundup Churpon
In this immersive pottery workshop, artist Tundup Churpon guided participants through the traditional use of Basgo clay to create functional and artistic pottery pieces. The session emphasized the connection between local resources and craft, showcasing Ladakh’s rich clay-working heritage.


Photography & Ecology with
Sharbendu De
Led by photographer Sharbendu De, this workshop delved into the relationship between photography and ecological awareness. Students were encouraged to reflect on how images can capture environmental narratives, fostering a deeper understanding of ecological issues through visual art.
Visual Storytelling through Photograms – Camera-less Photography Techniques with Ayan Biswas
This workshop explored alternative photographic techniques using photosensitive paper and UV rays from the sun. Participants and students experimented with creating photograms, producing unique images without a camera, and discovering the magic of light and shadow in visual storytelling.
