ARTIST RESIDENCY
sā x LAMOFremantle Biennale, Western Australia

A cross-continental artist exchange between Ladakh and Western Australia, this residency brings mountain and ocean worlds into dialogue under the Fremantle Biennale’s theme ‘Sanctuary’. Through regenerative, site-responsive practices, artists Stanzin Tsepel and Arunima Dazess Wangchuk explore belonging, climate resilience, and care - reimagining sanctuary not as a place, but as a shared practice across cultures, landscapes, and communities.

MEMORIES FROM THE LAND
Showcased at: Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, Dec 2024 | Dialogues Across Time at Indian Museum, Kolkata, Jan 2025
Conscious Collective by Godrej Design Lab, Mumbai, Dec 2025

How do we remember land? What stories do they carry? What significance do they have?

'Memories from the Land' is an ever-evolving collective of regenerative textile artworks that began in December 2024 with seven artists, from Ladakh to the United States, during the Serendipity Arts Festival, conceived as a lightweight, travelling exhibition carried in a bag and unfolding across spaces through delicate chiffon works and sound. In January 2025, the project expanded to fourteen artists while travelling to the Indian Museum, Kolkata for 'Dialogues Across Time by Basu Foundation, welcoming seven new Ladakhi artists, and in December 2025, it grew further with three new Ladakhi artists while travelling to Mumbai for Conscious Collective by Godrej Design Lab, leading to new collaborative works developed with partners across different parts of India. Today, 'Memories from the Land' continues to grow as a living collection of textile and sound-based artworks that convey stories and voices from the landscapes the artists are connected to, from the Himalayas to wider regions of India and beyond, opening pathways for future collaborations and regenerative journeys.

What connects our landscapes, how do we engage with them, and what do we wish to leave behind?

This site-specific installation explores two distinct yet interconnected fold mountain landscapes: the Aravalli Range and the Himalayas. Formed in vastly different geological epochs, they are united by Earth's lithosphere and tectonic forces. Today, we inhabit these ancient terrains, and through collaboration with students from Samagra Shiksha Kendra, supported by The Child Trust, the installation reflects their aspirations for the future. Each rock in the piece carries visual narratives created by these young custodians, expressing what they hope to leave behind for generations to come. After the exhibition, all materials will be repurposed into sustainable building resources through sā's sustainability partner, The Crashpad.

TRANSFORMATIONS
sā x India Art Fair, Delhi

India Art Fair celebrates the intersection of tradition and innovation, where diverse artistic expressions come together to reflect the vibrant cultural pulse of contemporary India. The sā team installed a large-scale, 90-square-meter site-specific regenerative artwork ‘TRANSFORMATIONS’ by Skarma Sonam Tashi and Philipp Frank at the India Art Fair of 2024 in New Delhi. The artwork depicted vulnerable traditional Ladakh architecture. The artwork, made with sand, clay, and papier-mâché, featured light projections and was utilized to create resilient infrastructure for a charity school serving children from migrant families in Noida. The initiative was supported by the German Embassy in India, Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation, and Crashpad.
